March 21, World Poetry Day or Spring of Poets, was proclaimed by UNESCO on the spring equinox in order to "reflect on the power of poetic language and the flowering of the creative capacities of each person."
At our school, through the Language Department, we have contributed to celebrating this Day, developing precious projects with Secondary students that are exhibited at school and in class whose purpose is to awaken poetic sensitivity and educate literary creativity.
In addition, we have held poetic recitals and multiple readings, in which a group of students have visited the classrooms of the last cycle of Primary Education and ESO to declaim before their classmates poems of their own creation, very varied in form and theme, that try to foster a taste for poetic texts. “Each poem is unique. In each work beats, to a greater or lesser degree, all poetry. Each reader looks for something in the poem and it is not unusual for him to find it: he already had it inside” (Octavio Paz).

From Colegio Alborán we invite you to reflect on the capacity and power of poetic language to transmit emotions and suggest feelings, as Lorca affirms "Poetry is something that walks in the street". Read more

At Colegio Alborán we are really excited. Violeta Monreal, a highly prestigious writer and illustrator who virtually visited our center on Tuesday, has sent us an email to congratulate us on the organization of the activity carried out, as well as on the exemplary behavior of our students during the online literary meetings.

Likewise, he has presented us with the drawings made in the sessions and expresses his most sincere gratitude to the entire team and the Department of Letters.

We appreciate your words and the beautiful gift, hoping to receive it in person on another occasion. Read more

On March 16, a very stimulating activity took place in our center: a literary meeting with Violeta Monreal, a prestigious writer, illustrator and specialist in children's drawing.

In three online talks, he shared with our 6th grade, 2nd and 3rd grade ESO students experiences about his book "Another world around the corner", a work read by our students, which conveys values of solidarity and the idea that it is possible to create a better world, since generosity has a contagious effect. "We can change what we don't like with our commitment," says the author of it.

The Alborán School, within the Reading Project of the Department of Language and in coordination with the Anaya publishing house, has developed another course of this interesting reading animation activity, on this virtual occasion.
Violeta, who participates in various conference cycles and coordinates workshops to promote creativity, encouraged the young people to be constant, explaining how to achieve our goals in three steps: dare and start working, resist even if it means overcoming obstacles and, finally, persevere and insist.

During his online visit to our center, he promoted the values of respect and tolerance, because as the title of his book suggests, there may be other worlds very close to us and we cannot look the other way.
Likewise, he stressed the importance of having a positive attitude, encouraging attendees to adapt to the circumstances with a good disposition, because "It is important to accept mistakes and improve every day."
In an atmosphere of trust, he explained that problems must be overcome and not give up in the creative process, “we don't need to be perfect to do what we like, what we have is to face problems freely”.
With a restless spirit, he took us on a tour of his studio, where he creates and develops editorial projects in which he coordinates texts and images for book collections in collaboration with various publishers, and he showed us the original drawings that appear in the book.

Likewise, Violeta, a graduate in Fine Arts and known for her original drawing technique (images composed of torn paper), created precious collages of genuine characters live in each session.
The writer, with more than hundreds of published books, a thirty-year professional career, and a career full of awards and mentions, kindly answered all the questions raised.
We can affirm that it was an enriching activity in which the attendees were very participatory, enjoyed and learned to value the work of both writers and designers and illustrators today.

This year there have been eight participants from our 2nd and 3rd ESO center who on Saturday, March 13, have enjoyed the adventure of being writers for a day.
The Language Department of our center has been in charge of coordinating the participation of its students in the Coca-Cola Young Talent Short Story Contest, which this year, reaching its 60th edition, will be completely digital, with very precise instructions, although not less exciting for everyone.
This important Literature Contest, whose objective is to encourage young people's interest in writing and reading, which is held simultaneously throughout Spain, is the longest running in our country.

Based on an original narrative stimulus, revealed online that same day, our brave students had to compose their story using the character from the text that they have just been presented as the protagonist, freeing their imagination to tell a story, with ingredients such as their creativity and enthusiasm. .
We wish good luck to Elena, Carmen and Daniel (2º ESO), to Lola, Alejandra, Sofía and Milan (3º ESO) and we congratulate them for having participated

The Alborán School, through the Language Department, organizes numerous activities throughout the course to promote reading, among which we highlight the "visit" to our school by the writer D. Rafael Jurado Morón. In this course and due to the pandemic, the literary meeting has been virtual.

The writer, interviewer, TV presenter and radio presenter, shared a great experience of his work "The Laughter Ambassador", a book read by our students and worked on on February 17 with the 3rd and 4th grade students. classroom, a beautiful fable that deals with the power of humor and the value of freedom, inherent to responsibility.

In its pages, it invites us to use laughter as an ambassador and take the fate of life with humor (the universal language).
With a great literary vocation, he has been developing a passionate career as a writer of Children's and Youth Literature for 25 years (with nine published books), work that he combines with coordinating book clubs at the municipal library of Coín, the municipality where he lives.

It was an enriching activity, in which Don Rafael knew how to address the minors with simple metaphors and answer all the questions that they had previously asked him with the aim of promoting interest in books.

We are grateful for this meeting and we feel honored to have been part of his dream: "to have his books read by thousands of children around the world and that they can discover the magic hidden in words through his own." . Read more
