Our 3rd and 4th ESO students, through the Department of Language and Literature, attended the Teatro Ciudad de Marbella on October 29, which hosted the first session of this course of the Rhyming Course Speaking Cycle, dedicated on this occasion to Pilar Paz Pasamar , poet from Cádiz of the poetic generation of 1950.

The purpose of this activity is to promote a taste for poetic texts and is coordinated by Don Antonio Gómez Yebra, Professor of Language and Literature at the UMA, novelist and poet. Launched by the Municipal Delegation of Culture and Education of the Marbella Town Hall, it is an interesting opportunity to bring poetry closer to the youngest and promote its recitation in public.

The excellent presentation of Pilar Paz Pasamar by D. Antonio Gómez Yebra made the attending students learn a lot about this author whose hometown annually awards the "Pilar Paz Pasamar" prize for short stories and poetry for women and who was named author of the year 2015 by the Andalusian Center of Letters.

Likewise, they appreciated her courage not only for writing and collaborating in important magazines at a time when it was very difficult for women, but also for being part of the poetic group "Las tremendistas".

Next, some students from our center participated by reciting selected fragments of the most representative works of this Andalusian writer described by Juan Ramón Jiménez as a “great girl”.

Let us also vindicate as this author of special sensitivity that gives a magical meaning to everything that surrounds her "the perpetual childhood of the heart that is poetry." Read more

"We are all potential writers."

Nothing better to close Book Day than a very interesting literary meeting with a writer as special as Irene Marín, teacher and director of CEIP Sierra Bermeja who studied at our school from 2nd grade to Baccalaureate. That is why she began by sharing anecdotes from her student years at our school, while she recalled many of the pleasant memories she has of Alborán and her teachers. Her visit is a true honor for us, because in addition to being a former student, she is the daughter of one of our most beloved ladies, Doña Maricarmen Jiménez.

This tireless reader has seen her dream come true with the publication of her first book "When the sun kissed the sea", a work that combines history and adventure and captivates the reader from the beginning. For more than five years she has been documenting herself so that we can enjoy this exciting work, which is basically a tribute to the Costa del Sol, an area that has traces of past civilizations, but that not everyone knows about.

He clarified all the doubts that arose about this vibrant story in which the past and the present intertwine to shape an exciting story, while announcing his future projects.

During his visit, he encouraged the attending students to see in the challenges an opportunity for personal improvement, encouraging students to embark on the adventure of writing. “Writing is inventing the world as each one wants. Writing gives freedom.

Irene, with her natural sweetness, talked with the attendees of the four Secondary courses about the importance of spelling and compared reading and writing with sport, which improves as more is practiced.

In a very enriching meeting with great pedagogical value, the new writer promoted a positive attitude towards books while spreading her passion for reading and writing.

To commemorate Book Day, the Department of Language and Literature of the Alborán School has organized an interesting literary meeting with the writer Sergio Barce.

The writer from Malaga and Lara shared with all the students of Secondary Education both his literary work and his personal experiences and anecdotes in Moroccan lands, experiences that are reflected to a large extent in his novels: memories of a happy childhood with friends from different cultures.

During his visit, there was also time to talk about the short film "El Nadador" that has already won several awards, directed by Pablo Barce and based on one of the stories from his book "Walking around the Souk Chico", a book read by the students during this course and on which he focused at the request of the attendees. This work is, basically, a tribute to those people and places that were part of his childhood.

Likewise, he briefly explained the plot of "A mermaid drowned in Larache" and "The book of stolen words."

At our school we are aware that reading is an essential factor in the personal and social development of young people, which is why we organize activities to encourage reading that show literary enjoyment through the books read in the classroom. In this literary meeting, Sergio, in a close and relaxed atmosphere, helped to sow the reading habit, encouraging students to value, even in these times of free downloading of books, the work of creation and the work of the author.

The students of the four courses of Secondary Education and of the 1st year of the Alborán College, through the Department of Language and Literature, attended the Teatro Ciudad de Marbella on April 10, which hosted the Project "Speak Rhymed Course" dedicated to Cecilia Böhl de Faber, Spanish writer better known as Fernán Caballero, a pseudonym she adopted for the town of Ciudad Real of the same name.

Coordinated by the UMA Professor of Language and Literature, novelist and poet, D. Antonio Gómez Yebra and launched by the Municipal Delegation of Culture and Education, this activity tries to promote a taste for poetic texts.

This Poetry Recital is a very interesting resource to bring poetry and poets closer to younger students, which is why we participate with enthusiasm every year.

The fantastic exhibition and presentation of Cecilia Böhl de Faber by D. Antonio Gómez Yebra made the students learn a lot about the life of the brave author, a pioneer in the collection of ballads from modern oral tradition, and about her works.

Next, some students from our school together with students from other educational centers publicly declaimed fragments of their most representative works. Read more

To celebrate the International Children's and Youth Book Day (April 2 to commemorate the date of birth of the writer Hans Christian Andersen) the Department of Language and Literature of the Alborán School organized, in collaboration with the Anaya publishing house, an interesting animation activity for the reading.

It was an interesting meeting with D. Rafael Salmerón carried out on April 4 .

Salmerón, writer and illustrator of books and posters, explained to our students, in a friendly and close way, the differences between the work of the writer and the illustrator, as well as between drawing and illustration.

He introduced the assistants of Primary and first cycle of ESO in the fantastic task of an illustrator, which is very similar to that of the translator, since "its mission is to translate from the language of words to that of images, with different tools" , that is, telling the same story through drawings and illustrations in a coherent way.

He highlighted the value of words and intonation, the style in the case of drawing, stating that "we must take into account not only what is said, but how it is said, especially in this conversion or transformation of words into images" .

He also highlighted the importance and advantages of illustrations in a book. However, he also commented with concrete examples that if it is not done well it can cause the opposite effect.

He focused on the works "A handful of fears" and "La tejedora de la muerte" (the latter the first book that he illustrated) by the writer Concha López Narváez, which he has illustrated, and which have been read this year by our high school students. Primary and the first cycle of ESO.

The students showed interest in his youth works "Noah's kite", "A ball for a bullet" and "27 beats", stories of improvement that transmit values of hope. Likewise, they revealed great concern for their works "El club" and "Don't move, shrew" winner of the Lazarillo Award.

In the two sessions he offered at our school, he told stories, interacted with the attendees, drew for us and gave us many beautiful drawings.

It turned out to be a very interesting and relaxed meeting, in which there was time to clarify all the doubts of the students, who actively participated.

Contact with nature provides a series of very interesting benefits: we stimulate creativity, reduce stress and strengthen the immune system. For this reason, when spring arrives we use our classrooms outdoors and enjoy the sun and light of our coast.

In the following images we see the 3rd ESO students in our privileged natural environment, during one of the Language and Literature sessions. Read more

Game-based learning favors the development of cognitive (such as concentration or memory) and psychomotor skills, since it works on visual dexterity, spatial coordination and perceptual discrimination.

Our 1st ESO students in the subject of Language and Literature learn by playing, making learning and reviewing content effective and meaningful.

In this way, the students have reviewed the demonyms, those adjectives that denote relationships with a geographical place, practicing with the great variety of suffixes, playing Quizlet Live as a team to name the inhabitants of the provinces of Spain. Read more
