The Alborán school continues to participate in the weekly children's literary contest launched by Hammam Al Ándalus, which aims to “build a bridge with words”.

We join this bridge that through literary creativity bridges the physical distance between children and adults.

Until the hugs and face-to-face stories return, it is a magnificent proposal in which the grandchildren tell stories to their grandparents.

In the week of April 16 to 23, the following have been awarded:

  • Jorge Casas, (First Prize) of 4th grade, in the category of 6 to 9 years, for his story "Los viajes de Aníbal".
  • Daniel Casado (First Prize) from 2nd ESO, in the 10 to 14 year old category, for his story “An experience they will never forget”.
  • Alejandra Cívico, (Third Prize) of 2º ESO, in the category of 10 to 14 years, for her story "The mysterious girl".

Through the Department of Language and Literature, Colegio Alborán carries out activities to encourage and promote reading. To commemorate this April 23, we have organized, on this occasion and given the circumstances, a virtual literary meeting.

The writer who has joined us today on this atypical Book Day has been Mariela Mazza.

The transpersonal therapist and writer shared with the students experiences about her first published book "Owl, an adventure of awakening", a work read by our students.

At the same time, in a very enriching video, he clarified all the doubts that arose with his work and answered the questions that our students had previously asked him.

The 4th ESO students have created a very original and creative video. They start by listing the advantages of reading and explaining what books are for, and then they provide unimaginable functions about books.

For their part, 2nd ESO students have made an educational video from home in which they read inspiring phrases and offer the best famous quotes to enjoy reading.

The students of 1st and 3rd of ESO have also participated in this Day, making beautiful poems with the theme of books, beautiful poems of their own creation.

Finally, 1st year of Baccalaureate has also joined this literary celebration, and has developed a video referring to literature and the arts, with a humorous aspect to make us smile, always so beneficial.

In the week of April 9 to 16, the following have been awarded:

Carmen Bautista, (First Prize) of 1º #ESO in the category from 10 to 14 years for his story "Crustofatio and his extraordinary adventure in Indonesia".

Hugo Romero (Third Prize) of 2º ESO in the category of 10 to 14 years for his story "Sueños hereditados".

Carlos Palacios, (Third Prize) of 4th of #Primary for his story "Adventure in the Garden".

Our 2nd grade students Baccalaureate María Puertas and Elena Fuchs have won the Second Prize of the Manos Unidas Film Festival in the Schools category.

In its eleventh edition, the Festival's motto has been "You, what mark do you leave?"

Our awarded students have made this video entitled "We are still on time", in order to raise awareness of the climate emergency and show the importance of joining forces to change the future of the planeta.

Our school has joined for another year the initiative that aims to raise awareness among young people about the need to care for the environment, participating with 11 clip footage of our students Secondary education and Baccalaureate, through the Department of Language and Literature.

On February 20, a cycle of literary conferences for teachers took place in Malaga, whose objective is to acquire tools to encourage reading and develop creative writing among young people. In them, the Alborán School was present to put into practice new tools and resources to apply in the classes. 

More than 60 teachers from Andalusia participated in them and it has served to discuss the importance of reading and the keys to train young readers, with recommendations for activities to work in the classroom, as well as debates that were enriching for all attendees.

The Function Language School was in charge of carrying out creative writing workshops that dealt with the theme "Play, learn, live" and addressed the theme of play as a pedagogical resource in a practical and entertaining way, "we work with language, which is what that makes us human."

Mr. Jordi Sierra i Fabra, one of the most widely read authors in our country's educational centers, the most versatile and possibly with the most published works in the Ibero-American sphere, was in charge of inaugurating these literary conferences that have been organized by the Coca-Cola Foundation. Cola, coinciding with the 60th edition of the Short Story Young Talent Contest.

The prestigious author of Youth Literature, with more than 500 books written and 13 million books sold, awarded with countless literary prizes and deserving of hundreds of honorable mentions, in a fun and very close encounter, highly valued the teaching work today , highlighting the vocation and involvement of the attendees.

In 2004 he created the Jordi Sierra i Fabra Foundation in Barcelona and the Jordi Sierra i Fabra Letters Workshop Foundation in Medellín, Colombia, as the culmination of an entire career and of his ethical and social commitment. Since then he annually awards the prize that bears his name to a young writer under the age of eighteen.

Also a reference in the music scene, he shared his script process and his work routine with all the attendees, at the same time that he presented us with his idea that “you have to stop and listen to others”.

The prolific writer of all genres, stated that it is really a necessity to discover and promote the talent of young people, affirming that reading is more important than studying, since each one feels something different and unique when reading a book, even if it is the same work. , "the good reader always finds the book that changes his life." Perhaps it will happen to us like him “Reading saved my life. Writing gave him meaning."

However, it turned out to be a space to share concerns, theoretical-practical material and teaching experiences, exploring the creativity of teachers and students.

Within the Reading Project of the Department of Language and Literature and in collaboration with the publishing house SM, on February 13 a literary meeting took place in our school with Mr. Alfredo Gómez Cerdá, a prolific writer with more than 25 awards, specializing in Children's and Youth Literature who has become a reference author. 

Don Alfredo shared with the students of Secondary Education literary experiences of his works "Dímelo con los ojos" and "Con los ojos cerrados". The attending students, who had read these books for the expected appointment, were able to enjoy this meeting with questions about the works and his experience as a writer, while showing great interest in his work "The seven deaths of the cat."

The writer began his speech by talking about inspiration, with a very interesting reflection, stating that he "is inspired by two looks that he combines: one inward and the other outward."

He explained that the first deals with experiences, experiences and the inner world, "it is important to search within oneself to create an intimate and personal literature." At the same time, he added that the second look is also necessary, since we do not live alone. "The writer must be a great observer and always be attentive."

The author, whose works have been published in various countries in Europe, America and Asia and has 140 titles, knew how to convey the importance of documentation work, "something that is fundamental, not only in the historical novel."

 In a dialogue meeting, he encouraged young people to enter literary contests, also advising them to read a lot, because that's how you learn to write. Quoting Gabriel García Márquez "the best school that exists to learn to write is reading".

This activity to encourage reading was a great stimulus for the development of the reading hobby, an enriching and enjoyable meeting, in which the attendees actively participated. Read more

"A human being does not fit on a label."

With the main purpose of promoting reading, the Colegio Alborán, within the Language Department's Reading Project and in coordination with the Anaya publishing house, has developed one more course of this stimulating reading animation activity.

On February 10, Mrs. Ana Alonso, a writer specializing in Children's and Youth Literature, poetess and translator, visited our center.

During his visit to our center, he encouraged young people to create a reading habit, inviting them to read and go to the libraries, because in addition to having fun, they bring a very important gift: empathy. Similarly, when addressing our students, he promoted the values ​​of respect and tolerance: “Don't be afraid to be different, that's where your strength lies. Do not be afraid of those who are different from you either”.

Likewise, the author, who is a benchmark in Children's and Youth Literature, highlighted the value of language, "which is truly magical", because thanks to it we can transport ourselves in time and history, as well as have full freedom.

Doña Ana highlighted the importance of having a goal, a dream to fight for, something we all need, like the protagonist of El sueño de Berlín. For this reason, he explained that "you have to dare to see the imperfect beauty of life", as well as "you have to have the courage to change your attitude and take charge", clarifying in this way that, deep down, the main theme of his works is freedom.

The writer highlighted the enjoyment of books and focused on some of her works read in different courses, such as "Before midnight", "How to talk to your robot" and "El sueño de Berlín", the latter winner of the Anaya Prize for Children's and Youth Literature.

In a relaxed and very participative atmosphere, he explained what it is like to write co-authored, in his case with the writer Javier Pelegrín, with whom he has written more than 30 books, comparing the film script with literary language.

The writer, with more than 150 published books and a career full of awards and mentions, kindly answered all the questions raised and signed copies of her books.

In short, it was an enriching activity in which the students of the last cycles of Primary and Secondary were very participatory and receptive, enjoyed and learned to value the importance of the work of writers and illustrators today. Read more

On February 1, our 2st and 3nd ESO students attended the theatrical performance of the play "El diario de Anna Frank", a magnificent adaptation of the immortal play, known to all generations, by the company Sol de Nit , at the Gonzalo Martín Tenllado Professional Conservatory of Music, in Malaga.

The Language Department has coordinated this interesting activity by @hazteatring, which has led to a profound reflection on wars and their consequences as well as a fantastic opportunity for education in values.

We have accompanied the endearing Anna in an unforgettable story that combines the promotion of a critical spirit with an awareness of the meaning and relevance of war conflicts.
And so, in a didactic way, they have been able to capture the message of respect for diversity that this renowned work transmits.

Our 2nd ESO students made a visit to the facilities of the Coca-Cola factory in Malaga on Friday, January 24.

Organized by the Language Department of the Alborán School, this visit seeks to promote and encourage creative writing, and during it took place the presentation of the Young Talent Contest "Short Story Award" of the Coca-Cola Foundation, which this year reaches its 60th edition.

Said national literary contest has the collaboration of the RAE and has become one of the longest-running literary contests in the country, an authentic literary experience for thousands of Young Talents.

A selection of our students will participate in this important contest, in the Short Story modality, next Saturday, March 14. Until then, we continue working on creative writing in the classroom. Read more

On January 21, Pablo Álvarez Serrano visited our school. It has been an honor to receive this former student, who studied Baccalaureate of Arts and who is currently studying at the UMA the 2nd year of Communication Sciences.

In a close literary encounter, Pablo addressed the students who were his classmates just two years ago to present his book Reeh's Tale, his first work, written when he was 17 years old, which captivates the reader from the beginning, combinesI have adventure and love, thus being able to immerse ourselves in a very personal universe.

Pablo is a storyteller, who narrates through drawings, words or audiovisual language. A great reader and with great artistic sensitivity, he revealed his creative side from a young age, showing interest and aptitude for painting and drawing.

Pablo encouraged the young attendees to read and write, providing tricks that work for him, for example managing different literary genres.

At the same time, he highlighted the importance of creating a writing habit from an early age. He also recommended being constant, because although, in his words, writing is quite relaxing in the face of the frenetic pace of today's society, "the creative writing process is something that takes time."

He explained that "when you write, there is always a little bit of you in your work, because the most intimate and dark side comes out."

He also dedicated time to answering each of the numerous questions that the assistants of the last cycle of Primary, of all Secondary and 1 of Baccalaureate asked him.

To conclude the day, our guest also addressed our youngest readers of the first cycle of Primary, dedicating a few words to promote the reading and poetry.

For all this, it was a very gratifying activity, which we all knew how to appreciate and enjoy.

Our students of 3rd, 4th of ESO and Baccalaureate On November 6, he attended the theatrical performance of the play "Don Juan Tenorio" by José Zorrilla at the Superior School of Dramatic Art in Malaga.

The Department of Language and Literature has been in charge of coordinating this stimulating activity, which brings young people closer to our classics, this time to one of the greatest representatives of Spanish Romanticism.

On the most auspicious date, close to Everyone's Day the Saints and the Dead, the students have enjoyed a didactic way of this fantastic adaptation of Zorrilla's best-known dramatic work, inspired by "El burlador de Sevilla" by Tirso de Molina, key to studying the characteristics of romantic theater.

Thanks to the educational theater team "Haz Teatring" our students have been able to develop their artistic sensibility and actively participate in the subsequent discussion with the actors and director of the company Vérsame mucho, who have given life to the masterpiece of Romanticism that pays homage to the audacity and knavery of a very peculiar womanizer.

Our 3rd and 4th ESO students, through the Department of Language and Literature, attended the Teatro Ciudad de Marbella on October 29, which hosted the first session of this course of the Rhyming Course Speaking Cycle, dedicated on this occasion to Pilar Paz Pasamar , poet from Cádiz of the poetic generation of 1950.

The purpose of this activity is to promote a taste for poetic texts and is coordinated by Don Antonio Gómez Yebra, Professor of Language and Literature at the UMA, novelist and poet. Launched by the Municipal Delegation of Culture and Education of the Marbella Town Hall, it is an interesting opportunity to bring poetry closer to the youngest and promote its recitation in public.

The excellent presentation of Pilar Paz Pasamar by D. Antonio Gómez Yebra made the attending students learn a lot about this author whose hometown annually awards the "Pilar Paz Pasamar" prize for short stories and poetry for women and who was named author of the year 2015 by the Andalusian Center of Letters.

Likewise, they appreciated her courage not only for writing and collaborating in important magazines at a time when it was very difficult for women, but also for being part of the poetic group "Las tremendistas".

Next, some students from our center participated by reciting selected fragments of the most representative works of this Andalusian writer described by Juan Ramón Jiménez as a “great girl”.

Let us also vindicate as this author of special sensitivity that gives a magical meaning to everything that surrounds her "the perpetual childhood of the heart that is poetry." Read more
