Retirement of Marta Lerga. 2023-24

Letter from our Director, José Luis González, to our colleague Marta Lerga on the day of her retirement:
"Dear Marta:
There are things that you think will never happen. But they pass.
Today is a bittersweet day. I remember conversations from almost twenty years ago in the Science department talking about an abstract and distant thing called retirement, it was something for older people, not for us. But in life everything comes, and everything passes. Also us, only there are people who do it on tiptoe, and others who leave a deep mark on their colleagues. I usually say that professionals leave, people don't, symbols even less so. The mark that Marta leaves on students, teachers and colleagues is indelible. In particular, I must say that I knew about Marta before I met her personally, since I was a teacher and biologist, like her, and her fame crossed the barriers of Alborán, although our first meeting happened in a cave, covered in mud, wearing a helmet and overalls. ; It was the director who shortly after, rightly or not, decided to hire me through a phone call that, paradoxically, surprised me lying on a beach in Ibiza; That day my life changed, I must say for the better. Call it destiny, call it chance, what difference does it make? She is the person from whom I learned what a director of this school should be like. He has given me lessons in knowing how to be, in personality and in dignity. I admire and respect her as a teaching professional with capital letters, but above all I applaud her disposition, her humility, her loyalty, her unwavering vocation and, most especially, her humanity, honesty and transparency, Marta is what she is, double faces do not matter. with her. We are talking about a “real aunt”, really, I must say that I have met very few like her in my life. I speak for myself, but I can assure you that the entire staff of this school subscribes to what I say, word for word, who would not love and respect Marta Lerga at the Alborán School!
I hope all goodbyes are like this, because fortunately life goes on. New stage, new goals, new routines, new challenges, I am convinced that the best comes now. You deserve it.
Thank you for what you leave here. We hope you take away a lot too.
We love you, friend. See you always.”
