March 8, International Women's Day. 2021-22

At Colegio Alborán we work on coeducation throughout the year, as we are aware of the importance of equality between women and men in all areas, including education.
That is why we inaugurated on March 8, International Women's Day, reading our commitment to equality and in the classroom we dedicate time to debate and reflection.
From different subjects we have developed a series of activities that promote equality as a commemoration of this day.
1st of the Arts Baccalaureate, in the subject Audiovisual Culture, has created, following Rozalén's metaphor, a purple door, through which we can escape from unequal and discriminatory behaviors that benefit no one. Next to said door, the patio is a space where students and teachers can freely write and draw ideas, suggestions and messages of equality.
Likewise, we have worked on an interdepartmental project, combining joint activities between the Departments of Language, French, History, Philosophy and Science.
Thus, our students have investigated and characterized themselves as people of different nationalities and fields who have fought for equality: writers with a male pseudonym, lawyers, artists, scientists, inventors, suffragettes, ministers... with the aim of rescuing from oblivion these women and that they occupy the place they deserve in history, because “They also count”.

Among others, Clara Campoamor, Mariana Pineda, Federico G. Lorca, Margaret Thatcher, Cecilia Bohl de Faber (Fernán Caballero), Jane Austen, Simone de Beauvoir, Margarita Salas, Virginia Woolf, Sor Juana Inés De la Cruz, Hypatia de Alejandría, Agustina de Aragón, The Hatless…

On the other hand, we have carried out a very interesting literary meeting with the writer, poet and translator, Ana Alonso, a reference in children's and youth literature for the first three years of Secondary. The author shared experiences about her books "El sueño de Berlín" and "Mares de plástico" in two sessions in which the students participated actively and enjoyed a lot.
Ana Alonso took advantage of the occasion to, in addition to promoting a taste for reading and poetry, convey a message of equality, declaring that, although there are films and literature in which manipulation is shown as romantic love, "a relationship that cannot be based on power or control is really authentic, the rest can be toxic.
Likewise, the 4th year ESO Science students have worked on the transversal project Women in Science, carrying out interesting works and posters that they have exhibited in the school hall and which are added to those of other courses that show the struggle of women for their equal participation in society.

With all these works, we join the initiative that wants to claim equality between women and men. In this way, we intend to change this reality and eradicate many behaviors and stereotypes that do not respect women's rights while creating reflection on the achievements and challenges that we still have to meet.
