XXXII Cultural Week. Solidarity and Sports Day. 2022-23

“A lot of little people in little places doing little things can change the world” – African Proverb

The second day of our XXXII Cultural Week has been dedicated to solidarity and sport. That is why today has been one of our days without uniform. The students have been able to attend class without said uniform in exchange for making a donation for a good cause. On this occasion, the €698 raised have been delivered to the NGO Manos Unidas, which has offered our Primary and Secondary students a talk to explain their 2023 campaign: STOPPING INEQUALITY IS IN YOUR HANDS. Inequality has become the greatest threat and the greatest challenge worldwide. For many people, thinking about inequality and hunger is thinking about an impossible challenge, a problem with no solution to which nothing can be done. From Manos Unidas, they have told us that it is possible to turn this idea around to banish it from our minds and leave the solution in the hands of each one of us.

Among the various presentations of the day dedicated to solidarity, today we have been lucky to have AMUM (Association of University Women of Marbella), an initiative that was born with the vocation of helping girls who, due to their family situation, see their dreams cut short to access university, despite their brilliant record and the official aid they may receive, since they are families that cannot bear the burden of financing life outside the home during those months and until said scholarships arrive. In AMUM they talk about girls, since statistical data confirms that they are the sector of society that in certain socioeconomic areas see their chances of accessing higher education diminished.
Mrs. Graciela Waen Herrendorf, an architect by profession and president of the association, has directly and affably conveyed to our students the need to become aware of the talent that for reasons of purchasing power falls by the wayside, and has illustrated us through of successful cases of girls who, thanks to these aids, have managed to achieve their goals in life. The Alborán School is committed to a day without uniforms like today with the aim of collaborating in such a fair objective, while thanking AMUM for the deference of visiting us to share and explain their solidarity project.

Likewise, the Department of Physical Education has organized for today two sports circuits with a design adapted both for children in Early Childhood Education and those in the first cycle of Primary. In them they have carried out, in turns, various sports and psychomotor activities in a fun and enjoyable way.
Finally, after lunch, Primary and Secondary Education have participated in our traditional solidarity march through the closest environment of our school. An activity that combines sport and solidarity in a day for reflection and awareness.
