International Women's Day. 2024-25

Alborán School opened its doors on March 8, International Women's Day, by reading out our commitment to equality and in the classrooms we have dedicated time to debating the achievements obtained and the challenges we still need to meet.

We have also carried out a series of projects and activities in order to join the initiative to demand equality.

Firstly, the students of the Art Baccalaureate have created an original poster as a metaphor with a tree that grows in equality, because it is watered with the necessary ingredients: respect, justice and freedom. On its leaves are written essential famous phrases about equality.

On the other hand, our secondary and high school students have carried out research to characterise women of different nationalities and fields who have fought for equality: writers, artists, scientists, historical figures, activists, academics, suffragettes... with the aim of rescuing these women from oblivion.
Among others, Maria Moliner, Maruja Mallo, Jane Austen, Lidia Poët, Agustina de Aragón, Rosalind Franklin, Isabel I, Isabel II, Joanna I of Castile (nicknamed The Mad), Carmen Conde, Clara Campoamor, Cecilia Böhl de Faber (Fernán Caballero), etc.

In addition, we have carried out an interdepartmental project, combining joint activities between different Departments:
Language, Arts, Physical Education, Music and Science.
The result was an original mural displayed at the school entrance that shows the work of pioneering women in literature, music, sport, art and music, and serves as a reflection on the struggle for equal participation of women in society.
